It just doesn't work out this way. When you are seeking grant fundings you have to be more specific. Yes there are grant programs for research - in fact quite a lot of them. But you have to state what you want to research and why - that information is going to be needed when you apply for the funding. There are just too many research-related grant programs out there (even those geared towards plant study/research).
